  • Visionstream ensures continuous mobile reception at Melbourne’s biggest events

If you shared or are sharing pictures or videos live from any of the following events in Melbourne you've got the Visionstream Optus Wireless Project (OWP) team to thank!

    • Carols by Candlelight - Sidney Myer Music Bowl
    • New Year Eve’s 2016 celebrations
    • Australian Open 2017
    • White Night (18 -19 February)
    • Moomba Festival (10 -13 March).

The team have installed a transportable cell tower, or Cell on Wheels (COW) that ensures continuous and enhanced Optus 4G mobile coverage at the events.

The COW caters for major events, where phone and data usage are at higher than normal levels. To deploy one COW can be likened to building almost three permanent mobile sites capacity wise within a week.

“We are very pleased to see another successful deployment of the COW by our OWP team,” says Richard Kelleway, CEO, Visionstream. “Installing these towers is a mammoth task and it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of this team that the COW was in place one week ahead of schedule.” The tower will continue to bring enhanced coverage to the precinct until March 2017.

With more than 20 years’ industry experience and end-to-end project capabilities across design, construction, operations and maintenance services, Visionstream’s delivery of mission critical networks is supported by robust project management methodologies, in-house technical capabilities, an extensive sub-contractor network and a strong culture of safety and sustainability.

Partnering with our clients, we find solutions for the key issues facing network operators including accessibility, efficiency, reliability, safety, equity and security.

  • Visionstream helps Waiheke Island to connect with the mainland

Visionstream has successfully completed the much-anticipated ultra-fast broadband build on Waiheke Island, enabling the connection of high speed broadband services to schools, business and homes.

Visionstream representatives joined NZ Communications Minister Amy Adams and Minister and Central Auckland MP Nikki Kaye, as well as representatives from Chorus, Auckland councillor Mike Lee and Local Waiheke board members for the announcement that the UFB communal build on Waiheke Island is now complete.

As part of the announcement, Visionstream was publicly acknowledged for its role in this success and for the contribution to the Waiheke residents and local businesses. Minister Adams emphasised the importance of the technology and how beneficial the new broadband is for the community and the local economy.

Almost 90 per cent of Waiheke Island now has access to the UFB service, including all local schools. Doctors will also see improvements in efficiency as they are now able to access patient files remotely, rather than travelling long distances back to Auckland Hospital.

The Waiheke Island UFB project took just under 18 months to complete and means that over 5,500 local homes and businesses have access to much faster, more reliable internet.

“This is just one example of how Visionstream’s role in the provision of UFB is helping New Zealanders connect, particularly in those more geographically isolated communities, where customers now enjoy the same world-leading broadband speeds as customers in central Auckland,” says Andrew Todd, General Manager Visionstream New Zealand.

“Visionstream is committed to growing the New Zealand footprint through delivering an excellent customer experience and offering innovative, quality products and services in a way that provides value.”

“In terms of the Chorus network, the average connection speed is now 33Mbps; more than doubling over the past year,” added Todd.

Visionstream has completed more than 60 per cent of the Auckland UFB rollout and continues to meet delivery KPIs.  More than 30 per cent of end customers passed have taken up a fibre service, setting the benchmark for end customer connections.

Visionstream is proud to play a role in this important technological advancement for New Zealand.

  • Visionstream Wireless Project team surpasses 2 million staff hours LTI free

Visionstream’s Wireless Project team, consisting of the Ericsson nbn Fixed Wireless Roll out, Telstra Wireless and the NSW Telecommunications Authority Project, recorded 2.09 million staff hours without a lost time injury (LTI) as at the end of May and over 1.61 million staff hours without a medically treated injury (MTI). This record exceeds industry averages and highlights how the local Visionstream Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) coordinators work collaboratively with field staff, contractors and engineers to foster a strong safety culture.

“Most companies celebrate the milestone of a million staff hours LTI free, the fact that we have surpassed 2 million staff hours LTI free, plus over a million staff hours MTI free on a national construction project is a cause for great celebration” says David Wright, National SHEQ Manager – Wireless Projects, Communications Division, “These great results follow a concerted effort by our SHEQ personnel and leaders across Visionstream to educate our employees and subcontractors about work safety.”

The Wireless Projects team completes Greenfield builds and upgrades of telecommunication towers across Australia, in all states and most territories, including remote sites in the outback. Visionstream prioritises safety and strives to ensure all workers go home in the same condition they arrived at the start of their shift, no matter where they may be working and how tight the deadline. “The importance of working safely, and speaking up if something is not right, is part of the Visionstream safety culture and a message that is not lost on our people,” says Darren Shannon, Project Director – Wireless Projects, Communications Division.
