  • 40 new Chargepoint charging bays open at Westfield Shopping centres across Australia

Chargepoint, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, is pleased to announce that 40 new ChargePoint charging bays have opened at 10 Westfield shopping centre sites across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. BMW Australia partnered with Westfield to install free ChargePoint charging stations to enable both full battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) drivers to recharge for free whilst they shop. The initiative was conceived last year as part of BMW and Westfield’s commitment to sustainability, with ChargePoint chosen as the preferred supplier. All Westfield charging stations are now in operation with a view to expand the network as EV popularity grows. The installation of the charging stations positions Westfield shopping centres as the leading shopping destinations for EV drivers.

ChargePoint is Australia’s leading EV infrastructure supplier and has a network of over 33,000 charging stations globally. There are 340 ChargePoint charging stations located across Australia. “As the number of charging stations grows, it becomes easier for individuals and businesses to choose to drive electric,” says Richard Kelleway, CEO, Visionstream.  Chargepoint expects that the initiative will be a key factor in increasing the number of EVs on Australian roads over the coming years. “This should make people sit up and take notice of the EV movement. If businesses and organisations want to attract EV drivers, they will need to provide the necessary infrastructure,” adds Kelleway.

  • Visionstream indigenous partnership cleans up!

One of Visionstream’s national nbn teams based in Australia’s mid north coast of NSW is working to upgrade a boat ramp and surrounding picnic area in Kempsey, partnering with the local indigenous community, contractors and Kempsey Shire Council after a successful program of works connecting the region to the national broadband network.

Visionstream identified a skills gap in their nbn project, based around the Port Macquarie and Kempsey area, and engaged Real Futures, a training and employment service supporting indigenous Australians, to connect job ready people with the Visionstream team.

Indigenous employees sourced from Real Futures were deployed to the project working with Visionstream to roll out the nbn and paving the way to connect homes and businesses to the nbn.  As part of the Real Futures program, 50 Visionstream employees and subcontractors undertook cultural awareness training to gain a better insight into indigenous culture.

The partnership between the teams was so successful that Visionstream, Real Futures and local contractors joined forces to work on a community improvement program, to benefit the local area. An upgrade project was identified, including rubbish and weed removal, the installation of new park benches, an upgrade of the path around the area and the planting of indigenous flora.  To celebrate the successful completion of the project, a thank you BBQ and game of touch football was enjoyed by all.

Visionstream is supportive of nbn’s Reconciliation Action Plan and is finding unique ways to support its development and growth across our business.
